COMPARING YOURSELF TO OTHERS
Yesterday, contemplating my own life, what brings me joy and what causes me pain, I asked my husband if he compares himself to others.
My husband (surprised by this “silly” question) : ‘Whaaaat !? No, I don’t. Other people compare themselves to me.’ :)))))
He’s from Argentina. Argentinians are deeply convinced they are the best, lol.
Do you compare yourself to others?
Do you compare yourself to others on SOCIAL MEDIA?
If yes...How does it make you feel?
In psychology, the human desire to compare ourselves to others is called “social comparison theory”.
YES, it’s normal to compare ourselves to others.
We are driven to evaluate and know the truth about ourselves. That’s why we compare our abilities and opinions to those of others.
YES, comparison can be beneficial if it motivates you to improve and to grow.
BUT! If you are CONSTANTLY comparing yourself to others (especially on SOCIAL MEDIA where almost everyone looks happy and successful!) can be very detrimental to your self-image and self-esteem.
Constant comparison is a sure way to unhappiness, unless you are the best (or Argentinian, lol). All it does is keeping you focused on what you don’t like about yourself and your life or on what you don’t have that others do.
WHAT CAN WE DO ABOUT THAT?
The good news is that your envy is a reflection of your deep desire. It actually opens your eyes to WHAT YOU DO WANT.
It’s all about the way we look at things.
Before focusing on what you don’t have, ask yourself : IS THIS SERVING ME?
If someone has what you want, it doesn’t mean that it’s not available to you. It’s the OPPOSITE!
Instead of choosing to see what you don’t have, redirect your thoughts and choose to see what you do have and WHAT MORE you’re ready to receive.
Try to shift your energy to what you can still create in your life!
Choose gratitude and joy of being who you are and where you're at this stage of your life, how much you've already achieved, how far you’ve already come, and how many beautiful things are still ahead!!!
Celebrate other people's success and believe (and feel excited!!) that soon you’ll experience the same thing for yourself.
Feeling good for someone else’s success helps you generate the same feelings you need for your own accomplishments!
Remember: life is not a race or competition, it’s a journey.
Allow the feelings of joy, abundance and prosperity to become your friends for life.
